Clinician meeting with a patient

About us

Dr. Mira Holston, medical director

Our mission

helptroutsteak Healthcare exists so people can experience medicine as a partnership rather than a series of rushed encounters. We opened our first clinic after listening to community members describe how hard it was to keep one clinician in the loop when life changed jobs, moved cities, or added caregivers. Our founders—physicians, nurses, and health educators—committed to a model where records travel with the patient, language stays plain, and outreach happens before small issues become emergencies.

We measure success by stability: fewer avoidable hospitalizations, medication lists that make sense at the pharmacy counter, and patients who can explain their own care plan to a loved one. That stability requires culture as much as technology. Staff huddles each morning review capacity and vulnerable members, not only billing metrics. Coaches and physicians sit together so behavioral and physical health never live in separate silos.

Community education is part of clinical care here. We host monthly workshops on nutrition labels, inhaler technique, and reading lab reports. Materials are available in large print and screen-reader friendly formats because accessibility is a clinical outcome, not an afterthought.

Values that guide every visit

Clarity comes first. We explain diagnoses with diagrams when helpful and send written summaries after each visit. Consent is ongoing: you choose who sees which parts of your record, and you can revoke access without penalty. Equity shows up in extended hours, interpreter coordination, and sliding scales on selected preventive packages listed on our pricing page.

Safety is non-negotiable. Antibiotic stewardship, contrast allergy checks, and medication reconciliation occur at every transition—admission, discharge, specialist return. We encourage questions because catching uncertainty early prevents harm later.

Sustainability matters for clinicians too. Reasonable panel sizes and documentation support reduce burnout, which in turn protects patients from hurried decisions. We treat staff wellbeing as a quality indicator visible to members through consistent teams and familiar faces.

Growth with accountability

Since our launch we have expanded diagnostic review and pediatric foundations while keeping the same electronic record. Growth never outruns training: new hires precept with senior clinicians for twelve weeks and complete simulation drills for urgent symptoms. External auditors review privacy practices annually, and findings are summarized for members in plain language on this site.

We collaborate with regional hospitals for transitions of care but remain independent in clinical judgment. That independence lets us recommend conservative imaging when appropriate and advocate for second opinions when patients feel unsure.

Who we serve

Our members include working professionals managing early chronic conditions, caregivers coordinating parents and children in one schedule, and retirees who want proactive monitoring without feeling rushed. We designed pathways for each group: flexible evening slots, pediatric handouts that caregivers can share with schools, and slower-paced visits when hearing or vision needs extra clarity.

Behavioral health is woven into medical care rather than siloed. When anxiety disrupts sleep or mood affects medication adherence, coaches and physicians co-sign plans that respect both mental and physical goals. We screen for social needs such as food access or transportation and connect members with community partners when clinical care alone cannot remove a barrier.

Quality you can trace

We publish internal quality metrics each quarter: same-week access rates, preventable emergency visits among chronic members, and patient-reported confidence managing medications. Leaders review outliers in weekly safety huddles. When a metric slips, we adjust staffing or templates rather than blaming individual patients for complexity.

Research participation is optional. Members may join pragmatic studies on coaching frequency or home monitoring devices with clear consent forms and the ability to withdraw without affecting routine care. Findings that improve our standard workflows are summarized on the blog so the wider community benefits.

We welcome feedback after every visit through anonymous surveys. Themes drive real changes— from brighter wayfinding signs to clearer prescription labels— rather than sitting in a quarterly slide deck alone.
